All clogs are your responsibility, including the garbage disposal.

Garbase disposals are not the alternative to your trash can.   BEFORE rinsing any dishes in the sink, scrap all left over food into your trash can.

  • Never put fats, oils, or grease into a garbage disposal.
  • NO coffee grounds or egg shells.
  • NO non-food items
  • NO bones of any kind

Disposal Operation:

  1. Run a steady stream of cool water into the sink before turning on the garbage disposal.
  2. Before placing any food waste into the disposal, turn it on first.
  3. Gradually feed food waste into the disposal, avoid putting large amounts of food waste all at once as this may slow the grinding process
  4. Once the food waste has been broken down, turn the disposal off and let water run for a few seconds to flush the drain pipe.

Troubleshooting

  • If the disposal makes a humming noise when you try to turn it on, then there is something in it that is keeping it from turning.  You should have a hex key that you place underneath, and center of the disposal and move it back and forth to loosen it.
  • If the does not work, and there is not any humming sound, check the house circuit box to see if there is a tripped circuit.  There is also a little red reset button underneath the disposal.

Do you best to determine where the water is coming from.   Sometimes it is a fault sump pump, sometimes it might be a faulty hot water tank.   Any information you can provide when you call us immediately is helpful.

The toilets and the sinks all have water feed lines.   Tubs and showers water feed lines on in the walls of the building.

The toilet water feed line is on the outside of the toilet and leads up to the tank.

The sink water feed lines are under the sink.

If you have water coming out of these areas, or unexpected areas around the shower or tub, then you need to turn off the water immediately.  If you can’t find the water shutoffs at the water lines, then go to the basement and shut off the Main Water shutoff and contact us immediately.
